Small Business Health Options Program (SHOP)
We have your back, with plans created especially for Maine small businesses. As a small employer, tax credits may be available through the Small Business Health Options Program (SHOP). If your business is eligible, our small business on-exchange plans could help you provide employees with affordable, flexible and convenient health insurance. We are the only health insurer offering SHOP plans in Maine.
Take back control of your healthcare costs
Choosing the right small business health plan doesn’t have to be complicated. Small business employers with 1-50 full-time equivalent employees may be eligible for a SHOP plan. SHOP tax credits may also be available to employers with fewer than 25 full-time equivalent employees who meet SHOP plan requirements, and income eligibility rules. These credits are available for two consecutive years if your small group meets the requirements. The smaller your business, the bigger your potential tax credit.
Quality group plans you and your employees deserve
Employers interested in SHOP plans need 70% participation to qualify. Use the SHOP Minimum Participation Rate (MPR) Calculator to determine the minimum number of employees who must enroll for your group to qualify.
The minimum participation requirement is waived once each year during the annual enrollment period from November 15 through December15.
To be eligible, your business or organization must:
- Have a primary business address within Maine
- Have at least one common-law employee
- Have 50 or fewer full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
- Offer coverage through SHOP to all full-time employees
